Historical Timeline
 1750 Georgia is the last of the British North American colonies to legalize slavery.
 1750 White slave owners lived in cities like Savannah; whereas the majority of the 40,000 slaves at this time lived on plantations.
 1790 By this time, slavery is entrenched in the original 6 slave states: Maryland, Delaware, Virginia, North Carolina, Sough Carolina, and Georgia.
 1798 Georgia prohibits the importation of slaves from outside the United States.
 1859 429 slaves belonging to Pierce Butler are auctioned off in Savannah in the largest slave sale in U.S. history.
