Joshua Leavitt

Joshua Leavitt (1794-1873) was a Congregational minister and Liberty party spokesman. He served as editor of several newspapers, including the New York Evangelist, the Emancipator, and the New York Independent. He helped found the New York City Anti-Slavery Society, and became the first secretary of the American Temperance Society.
